The Best Time of Year to Shoot a Campaign in Morocco
Share
Timing can make a significant difference to the success of your campaign shoot.
While Morocco has sunshine for much of the year, every season offers different conditions, colors and opportunities depending on the type of campaign you're producing.
So if you're planning a Spring/Summer collection, an Autumn/Winter launch or evergreen lifestyle content, here's what to expect throughout the year.
Winter
Winter is one of the best-kept secrets for campaign production in Morocco.
While much of Europe experiences cold temperatures and grey skies, Morocco still offers mild weather, long hours of sunshine and beautiful golden light. Coastal areas such as Taghazout and Tamraght remain pleasant, making them ideal for surfwear and fashion campaigns that need a summer feel, but are stuck the European winter.
This is also when many brands start producing content for their upcoming Spring/Summer collections.
Spring
Spring is one of the most versatile seasons for campaign photography.
Temperatures become warmer without being too hot, landscapes are greener and the light remains soft throughout the day. Beaches are still relatively quiet, making it easier to create clean and natural images for every type of collection.
For many European brands, this is an excellent time to produce both commercial campaigns, lifestyle content or last-minute spring/summer drops.
Summer
Summer brings long days, vibrant colours and a lively atmosphere along Morocco's coastline.
While temperatures can become very warm inland, the Atlantic coast remains more comfortable thanks to the ocean breeze, making it perfect for swimwear campaigns.
Popular destinations such as Taghazout, Tamraght and Imsouane become busier during the holiday season, so early morning and sunset shoots often provide the best conditions for both light and fewer crowds.
Autumn
Autumn is one of my favorite seasons to photograph in Morocco.
From mid september on, the ocean remains warm after the summer months, the light becomes softer again and tourist numbers begin to decrease. It creates a relaxed atmosphere that's perfect for lifestyle campaigns for swimwear, surf brands, fashion and outdoor collections.
Many brands also use this period for last-minute production of lifestyle campaigns for upcoming Winter launches or to build content libraries for Autumn in the following year.
Light Throughout the Year
One of Morocco's biggest advantages is its natural light.
Golden hour is consistently beautiful, with warm tones that complement skin, textiles and natural materials.
While summer asks for very early or late missions because of the harder light, the other seasons give more opportunity to create throughout the day. Midday light can also work well, especially for clean editorial imagery or beach campaigns where bright, crisp visuals are part of the creative direction.
Wind & Ocean Conditions
Wind conditions vary throughout the year and depend on the location.
For fashion lifestyle campaigns, the wind can be an advantage, creating movement and energy in both styling and clothing. For surf capsule photography, planning around calmer mornings often results in more controlled shooting conditions.
Understanding local weather patterns helps maximise every production day.
Tourism & Crowds
Morocco has become increasingly popular, particularly in surf destinations such as Taghazout and Tamraght.
If you're looking for quieter beaches and a more exclusive feel, travelling outside the peak holiday periods offers greater flexibility and cleaner locations for photography.
When to Shoot Your SS Collection
For Spring/Summer campaigns, most brands produce content months before launch.
December through April are excellent months for creating warm, sun-filled imagery while Europe is still in winter, allowing marketing teams plenty of time to prepare websites, social media, paid advertising and launch campaigns.
When to Shoot Your AW Collection
Autumn/Winter collections don't necessarily require cold weather.
Many lifestyle brands now prefer producing AW campaigns in Morocco using layered styling, warm textures and softer seasonal light. This creates a timeless aesthetic while avoiding unpredictable European weather.
For this, March and April for early planning or October and November for last minute drops are the perfect time to come to Morocco.
Choosing the Right Time
The best time to shoot in Morocco ultimately depends on your campaign goals, product category and creative direction.
With thoughtful planning, every season offers unique opportunities. The key is choosing the right locations, making the most of the available light and building a production schedule that works with Morocco's natural rhythm.
